> Civic OS is a low/no-code software platform that enables government agencies and non-profit organizations to build and manage custom information systems without writing code. It is open source (AGPL licensed), self-hostable, and built on principles of transparency, open data, and democratic participation. Civic OS is structured as a Low-profit LLC to stay mission-aligned.
## Core Concepts
- **Tools, Not Products**: The platform adapts to each organization's unique needs rather than imposing a fixed product structure.
- **No-Code System Builder**: Users define data structures, input forms, and display views visually. The platform automatically generates RESTful APIs for every system.
- **Open by Default**: Data is accessible, browsable, and aggregatable unless there is a specific reason (e.g. personal data protection) to restrict it.
- **Runs Anywhere**: Organizations can self-host or use managed hosting. Data ownership always remains with the customer.
## Who It Serves
**Government agencies** (townships to large municipalities): permit tracking, public works requests, citizen relationship management, multi-department workflows, code enforcement, budget tracking, GIS integration, and public engagement platforms.
**Non-profit organizations** (grassroots to established): donor tracking, volunteer management, program management, grant tracking, impact measurement, beneficiary services, and compliance reporting.
## Pricing

Civic OS was founded by Dan Kurin, a Kettering University Electrical Engineering graduate based in Flint, Michigan, with 15+ years of experience in IT, software development, and electronics consulting, including prior work at Tyler Technologies.
