Civic OS is a small Flint-based company. Today that is Dan Kurin, working with a bench of trusted contractors as projects call for it.
Dan Kurin, Founder & CEO
Dan is a Kettering University graduate based in Flint, with a degree in electrical engineering and more than fifteen years in IT support, software development, and electronics consulting. Before Civic OS, he spent two years at Tyler Technologies, the largest vendor of small-government software in the country, leading a team of engineers. He took that role on purpose, to learn how municipal software is built before building his own. His family lived through the Flint water crisis, which is a large part of why this company exists: he saw what happens when public information systems do not serve the people who depend on them.
Dan values time with his family, traveling, trying new restaurants, and volunteering with his son’s soapbox derby team.
How we work
We build ongoing relationships, not one-time projects. When something breaks, our partners can call or text, and fixes usually happen the same day. For an all-volunteer board or a small staff, that kind of direct access matters as much as the software.
